Books to Read

My Top Four Favorite Birth Related Books!

1 Ina May's Guide to Childbirth - This book has some of the best birth stories you will ever read. There is tons of great information that every woman should know and this book takes a look at the very sexual nature of birth itself. "The same things that get the baby in are the same things that will help the baby come out."

2 Birthing From Within - This book takes on a very creative outlook at preparation for birth by using birth art as a way to come to terms with the psychological aspects of pregnancy and gives you ideas on how to "birth from within".

3 Born in the USA: How a Broken Maternity System Must Be Fixed to Put Women and Children First - This book goes behind the scenes and takes a look at what goes on in hospitals across the country. VERY informative, written by an obstetrician that has the guts to take a stand for women!

4 Birth as an American Rite of Passage - This is a very eye opening book written by an anthropologist about the rituals of modern hospital care. Sometimes a little hard to get through but the overall message of the book makes it completely worth it.

Books I am Reading Now!

Unassisted Childbirth, by Laura Shanley

Natural Cures "They" Don't Want You To Know About, by Kevin Trudeau

In Defense of Food, An Eater's Manifesto, by Michael Pollan
